Will Seek New Development Opportunities In Japan

ATLANTA , December 10, 2009 – Wendy's/Arby's International, part of Wendy's/Arby's Group, Inc. (NYSE:WEN) has decided not to review its current franchise agreement for Japan with Nihon Wendies, which expires December 31, 2009. This decision will result in the closing of all 71 Wendy's® restaurants in Japan .

Wendy's/Arby's International made the decision after it was unable to reach new terms for more development of the Wendy's brand in Japan with Zensho Co, Ltd, a large food retailer that controls Nihon Wendies.

“ Japan is an important market, and we intend to pursue new development opportunities in the country with new franchisees or joint venture partners. We believe there is significant long-term potential for Wendy's/Arby's Group restaurants in Japan ,” said Andy Skehan, Senior Vice President, Wendy's/Arby's International.

Skehan added, “We remain focused on building our international business with franchisees that are fully committed to reinvestment, growth and our high restaurant operations standards.”
