DUBLIN, Ohio /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Wendy's restaurants, in partnership with the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption, will collect donations from employees and customers to help the critical needs of orphaned children of Haiti. Customers can make donations in the coin canisters in the restaurants from Feb. 10 - 28th, or go to www.wendys.com and donate online.
"Wendy's and the Dave Thomas Foundation have a long tradition of helping foster children in need of loving, adoptive homes," said Denny Lynch, Foundation president. "After learning about the thousands of Haitian children who lost their parents in the earthquake, we knew we had to act. Helping these children is the right thing to do."
Participating Wendy's restaurants in the US and Canada will collect funds for the Haitian children from February 10 - 28. The Dave Thomas Foundation will work with child-serving organizations that are addressing the critical needs of the orphaned children of Haiti.
"The Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption focuses intensively on the 150,000 children in North America's foster care systems desperately waiting for adoptive families of their own, but our hearts also go out to the children devastated by the earthquake in Haiti. Sharing our mission and some resources with these children is what Dave Thomas would have wanted us to do," said Rita Soronen, executive director of the Foundation.
After Feb. 28th, canister funds will continue to support Wendy's Wonderful Kids, a signature program of the Foundation, which directs monetary grants to hire adoption recruiters throughout North America to find adoptive homes for children in foster care.
